Importance and role of event logging, in other words: what is to be done, if we operate according to ISO 27001 (ISMS) and we want even to comply with GDPR, too

Both the operators and the IT security personnel have to know, during the everyday practice of the IT operations, what are the events, that can be related to the IT infrastucture.
These events include, beyond the activities performed with the hardware, but also the actions performed by the users.
To know about these facts and activities is not enough, we might want to reconstruct exactly what happened, if necessary. In terms of information security and personal data protection, we have to be able to register, when, how, happened, we have to log, and analyze the events in order to comply with the relevant requirements of the ISO 27001 system management standard, and tose of the GDPR.
